CHAPTER 7: The Truth About Emily

Sam and Mike sat quietly, memories flooding back like a dark tidal wave.

Jason had known Emily for a while — through Sam. They would hang out occasionally, laugh over shared jokes, and to anyone watching, Jason had always seemed charming and friendly. But beneath that charm, he was quietly manipulating Emily, exploiting her vulnerabilities and her desperate hope for a better life.

He started frequenting the café where Emily worked as a tea girl, chatting with her, gaining her trust little by little. One fateful day, Jason made his move.
“I can offer you a better-paying job,” he told her, his eyes gleaming with false sincerity.

Tempted by the promise of a brighter future, Emily agreed to meet him after work. That evening, Jason introduced her to Morgan Smith, a man he described as a wealthy, well-connected business tycoon. Emily, unaware of Morgan’s true nature, was impressed by his confidence and charm.

Soon after, Emily quit her job at the café, drawn in by the promise of this so-called opportunity. But as the days went by, she began to notice that something was wrong. Morgan’s wealth and influence seemed too good to be true — and Jason’s close involvement with him raised more and more red flags.

Her instincts screamed at her to run. One afternoon, she took a deep breath and said,

“I’d like to go back to my old job. I think this isn’t for me.”

Morgan’s expression hardened instantly. Jason’s eyes narrowed into slits.

“You’re making a big mistake, Emily,” Jason warned, his tone dark and cold.

Morgan’s voice followed, dripping with condescension.

“You’re turning down an opportunity that could change your life forever.”

That was the moment Emily truly saw them — the mask had slipped. The kindness, the charm, the promises… all lies.

She felt a surge of betrayal and fear. But even with her heart pounding, she stood her ground.

“No,” she said, her voice trembling but firm. “I just want my life back.”

Morgan and Jason exchanged a knowing look — and Emily realized she was in more danger than she could ever have imagined.

Jason’s expression turned dark as Emily walked away. Rage and fear simmered beneath his calm exterior. He couldn’t let her go — not now that she knew too much. She had seen behind the curtain, and that made her dangerous.

That night, Jason began to plan. He had to silence her before she could expose them.

Emily ran home, her heart pounding, trying to shake off the unease that clung to her. She wanted to believe that walking away was the end of it, but deep down, she knew Jason wasn’t the kind of man who gave up easily.

The next morning, he showed up at the café, his trademark friendly smile back in place — a thin mask hiding his true intentions.

“I wanted to apologize for yesterday,” Jason said smoothly. “My boss also sends his apologies. I thought maybe we could grab a drink, talk things through?”

Emily hesitated, her instincts screaming for her to refuse. “That’s kind of you, but… I’m not feeling up to it today,” she replied cautiously.

Jason chuckled lightly, brushing off her resistance.

“Come on, Emily. It’s just one drink — no pressure, I promise.”

He flashed that charming smile again, the same one that had fooled so many before. Against her better judgment, Emily forced a polite smile and nodded.

“Alright,” she said softly. “Tomorrow then… just for a little while.”

Jason’s eyes gleamed with satisfaction. As he turned to leave, a chilling smile played on his lips.
